Ice Symbols
Finally we have some snow here in Prague. As I look out of the window today of the room that serves for my office, it is that beautiful grey sky, leaden with intent, snowflakes falling gently and undisturbed whiteness everywhere. I love such days. Its forecast to be this way for a few days too so maybe we will get some sledging in before it all melts. Snow is marvelous if you think about. Unique crystals of the stuff that show the miracle of creation in every flake. A warm blanket of cold stuff for Mother Earth. Initially perfect in every way. I say initially because it melts eventually turning into freezing cold puddles of brownish mess. Before it melts, it gets hardened and compacted and covered with yellowish patches

In the Mystical Hexagram, I talk of the horny hardened matter that we build up through life and I have discussed it another post on this blog too. As we get older, we lose our imaginative abilities to a great extent and we lose our childlike qualities. We form a shield if you will, against hurt, against pain, against trust, against the rest of the world. We hide. Our own experiences can make this hardened layer impermeable and impenetrable like a layer of very hard and rough skin. In the past, this defensive skin has been portrayed as horns of hardened material why? because there is a relationship to the dark Moon – to Selene – for as we grow our horns of life – we sleep easier. The hardened

Did you think there was no coming back Did you think I was digging my own hole Eyes seeking eyes lips seeking lips Anger rises and with words on the attack Come on surely you didn’t think… But of course you did, didn’t you It’s raining memories now as I understand My dreams and my thoughts just made that link Insane, it’s just another bloody mess Life is like that when we truly do learn Hanging upside down to see you right Is there something you’d like to confess? Hand in hand, walking through stills Pictured the way the lens remembered you It’s a slog, a long climb towards the Sun A life rich in bumps, holes and hilly hills Drenched in salty sweat and tears Life goes on and

I found myself thinking deep thoughts for much of this last weekend. You see, I can’t just live my life and not ask What am I? what is this all about? Knowing that most likely I will never actually know just makes it worse for me. Strangely perhaps, these questions have arisen in my mind all of my life – even when I was a small boy. Though I know that I may never actually find an answer doesn’t stop me from searching for one (or many). It is what has driven me to meditation and contemplation. I also suspect that if there were an answer, it would simply be impossible to describe it to anyone else and that I may not even by capable of understanding. Given that this

If I am honest I would say at times I wonder why I write anything at all. I sometimes feel like there isn’t much point as I really don’t have an avid fan base or readership to talk of. I often feel as if my words go unread. Despite that I keep writing. I guess that there are a number of reasons why including the hope that one of these days one of my books will sell a few copies, because I enjoy writing whether or not I am very good at it and I have things to say. I think those are all good reasons. As I have said before, its a competitive business writing. I am comfortably in the majority when I say nobody reads what I write.

The Vengeful Fates cackle While spinning their eternal web Objective achieved The plot in place They watch and wait From The Eagle’s Saga – A poem from Weird Tales: Otherworld Poetry by Dr. G. Indeed, those decisions are our life as they weave the patterns, twists and turns of our existence. But do we? Hermes, when asked about the nature of ordinary man – that is, of man that had not entered the stream of development that leads to initiation – he said that such a man or woman was merely a ‘procession of fate’. from The Zelator by Mark

I have a short temper. I do! I have to work on it at all times. If there is one thing that will invariably get me to blow my top, its the topic of Global warming. I think many who know me also know this. The idea being propagated by well funded propaganda machine is that somehow we are headed to disaster if we keep polluting the planet with CO2 – a greenhouse gas – that has already warmed the planet up and is responsible for any outbreak of bad weather we see and, in a few more years will reach tipping point and we will all fry in a horrible planetary death event…. OK – that last bit is exaggerated but you get my drift. Not only is this

Since I quit smoking I have gained weight at an alarming rate. A few months ago I decided to try to address it and I quit sugar and cut down heavily on sweets. Since this seemed to have no impact at all, I quit breads and anything wheaty. Still, no impact. I increased my exercise levels a bit with longer and brisker walks….. no impact. I cut out a lot of milk. You guessed it – no impact. I went out and bought an exercise bike and started doing 20 minutes everyday…..yes no weight loss at all…..So after christmas, I cut alcohol. At the same time, I have changed my diet and eat less fats and carbs but focus on proteins. I have eggs for breakfast, a salad at lunch

(The Destiny of Nations – Coleridge) I am finding The Zelator by Mark Hedsel a fascinating read. I have, in fact, read it at least twice before and it was one of those books that discovered me many years ago. I recall being in Toronto on a business trip and having a couple of hours to kill. I found a cheap bookstore somewhere in town and there was a pile of books called The Zelator. I picked one up and was sold in an instant. Hedsel discusses at

As you may know, we have owned for the last several years a small dog. His name is Rocky and he is a Prague Ratter or a Pražský Krysařík in Czech. Other than a slight case of halitosis, Rocky is a good little dog and good company for Deni our daughter. However, on a recent visit to the countryside and the village where Gabriela’s father lives, Rocky was a naughty boy apparently having his wicked way with a sexy young Yorkshire Terrier…. We have, of course, discussed his behaviour with him and he has promised not to do it again. However, the Yorkie became pregnant and gave birth late last year to two Rocky juniors. Of course, we had to have one. Rocky is now having to get along with
