The Art

In the silence I can hear As I watch my heartfelt prayer In the stillness of the inner I ask forgiveness and renewal The Sea is still and deep Reflections there to keep Aqua fluidly accepts ideas Smoothes and refines, purifies And throws them on the Fire Flaming through intense desire To work the Art of magic The inner to the outer flows Water steams as ember glows I see, I hope, I know That from my uttered words will grow The qualities that I seek I am, stillness, eternal A presence in the space A fluctuating lighted face Flickering half-formed in the first light I imagine that it will grow so very bright Consuming, boiling, generating Between the darkness and the light And everything is simply just right As

Magic, Nirvana and Reality

I often think that the world looks like you expect it to. If you believe the world a cruel place filled with hate then that is what it is and if conversely you see a paradise filled with beautiful people then that is what you get. The problem is that most of us run around thinking things more or less spontaneously. One minute the world is a cruel place full of hate and the next it can be a paradise filled with beautiful people. In other words, we continually run around in confusion sending mixed signals and, as a result, the reality that we create is, as we say in Yorkshire, ‘neither nowt nor summit’. We fail to to create with any consistency. Magical training involves a lot of self

The Last Supper

In the run up to Halloween, here is another true and strange tale of the paranormal. I will post a new strange true story each day so don’t miss them. At the beginning of my second year of college, I moved into a flat in West Bromwich. It was quite a distance from the University but it was the only thing I could find that I could afford. There was a bus ride into Birmingham and so I just had to get used to the idea of commuting. At some point I had acquired a very large paper poster of Leonardo Da Vinci’s Last Supper. I really liked the painting and would often spend time studying the detail of the picture. It hung proudly on the main wall of the

It’s A Mystery

There is so much that we do not know and probably can never know. I have to be honest and say that that pisses me off! Among the first thoughts that I can recall thinking were things like who am I? What am I? and things have not changed. I still ask such questions on a daily basis and I am still frustrated in the knowledge that I may never know the answers. I know that I am something – I think, I feel – I am. But what am I? Will I die and simply cease to exist? What is at the end of space? What is it all for? Is there a reason for all this – the out there – what is it anyway? It’s pointless I

The Devil Rode Out

When I was a teenager, I was experiencing all kinds of strange things that really scared the hell out of me. I have documented a lot of that in my book – Inner Journeys: Explorations of the Soul including the poltergeist-type activity and the visitations by some ghostly presence. It’s all in that book! However, I remained really interested in magic and the so called ‘occult’ at the time devouring many books on the subject. In the midst of the activity and the interest, I watched a film on TV one christmas that both enflamed my interest but also scared me very deeply. Looking back on the movie now the effects are pretty poor by comparison to modern movies but back then – wow! More important though was that in

The Lord of the Elements

The Lord of the Elements is the prequel to The Last Observer and it focuses, for reasons those who have read The Last Observer will understand, on Edward Bright. Edward is the friendly, well-meaning and debonair magician and businessman who attempts to rescue bookworm Stanley from Zeltan and his black Lodge but in The Last Observer we do not learn much about the man, where he came from and why he is, well – who he is. The Lord of the Elements follows Edward through college as his interest in magic grows. After college, he is taken under the wing of a rich banker who becomes Edward’s adopted father in many respects. As well as being a successful private banker, Cyril Bainbridge is also the Grand Master of a Magic Lodge based

Seeing the Truth

The truth. You hear those words quite a bit. But is there really any such thing as truth? Perhaps truth is something that’s actually only true for you? I have spent much of my life seeking the truth and now, not only have I yet to find the truth, I am no longer sure the truth actually exists. Here is why. Firstly, each of us has a sort of core of beliefs – things that we have been told are correct. This core is nurtured by our parents and then the educational system who teach us either what they accept as truth or that that they were taught as being truth and they have found nothing better to replace it with. Some things we are taught may be closer to

Unrelenting Propaganda and Politics

All my life I have been told what is good for me. The British newspapers and news outlets love those stories and print them all of the time. Of course, back in the early days of my life, I like everyone else, believed them. I switched from yummy butter to rather sloppy and disgusting margarine, I welcomed flourine in my water and my toothpaste and so on…. but not any more. It is without doubt all propaganda and lies. Just yesterday, I read how Margarine is bad for you and we should eat butter. A total reversal of position. These days, the shrillness of the global warming story just about pips the shock horror stories of an endless ice age of twenty years ago. Truth – if there is any

Now, Where is that Curse?

There are times when I find myself contemplating a little black magic. Yep, I have to be honest and say that there really are times when I think about delivering a really good and debilitating curse. Hell, there are times, if I am honest, when my thoughts are less than pristine and I do come very close to issuing a mental curse or hex. For this reason, I will never be a good magician as I must go back continually to the drawing board of ‘know thyself’ and work on that sudden rush of blood to the head that I experience from time to time and that will one day cause my fall. I must let it all be water off a duck’s back as they say. I recall taking
