Materialism and the Demise of Magic

I occasionally explore Facebook and other social media in search of something new, a different take or simply just fellow travelers. However, recently, I seem to have discovered a whole host of so called Magicians or people who talk about magic or claim to use it. I am so bitterly disappointed by this. What these people believe to be magic is pursuit of a better orgasm, monetary wealth, their own way and to feel good about it. That’s not REAL magic. That’s a materialistic, want it now by any means fair or foul, corruption the the Art. However, I fear this is where many end up. Magic is about exploring the inner self and discovering the deity within. It is about thankfulness, joy, love, and gratitude. It is about alignment of self

Your Life is One Big Lie

One of the central themes of all my writings – even the My Haunted Life series – is the nature of reality and the role that we may play in dictating that. Over the last twenty or so years (if not my entire life really), I have read, meditated on, studied and discussed this topic and the process I have come to several conclusions. One of these is that I now believe that much of our world is an illusion. It’s easy to draw analogies with movies like the Matrix here and I and others often do but what I mean is a lot of what we think we know isn’t real. It isn’t truth nor fact. I once said (and thought it was rather cute) – “The more I

Prayer and its Power….

I just finished a book by Mark Stavish called The Inner Way – The Power of Prayer and Belief in Spiritual Practice. Prayer is a very powerful tool that we have in our armory of magickal tools and one that is often overlooked. This is my review from Strange Book Reviews – my book review website. Five-stars from me for a wonderful book. There are books that you read, enjoy, perhaps assimilate a little of, and then consign to the dusty shelf of books once read but never retouched. There are other books that you read turning page after page, eager to move on, knowing that to properly assimilated, the book will need to be kept close at hand to be read, reread and dipped into when necessary. These latter types

It’s Just the News

I try not to visit the major news sites except for sport. Why? To be honest, I think they have agendas and they report only bad news that is usually blown up out of all proportion. Their agenda seems to be to create fear. So I really don’t visit anymore as I said. Yesterday though and today, I did visit the BBC and CNN websites looking for news on the fall in the price of oil. I am, after all, an analyst in the commodities space. I have hated the BBC website for some time but now CNN has done a similar redesign – its awful! Both news sites are now all big color pictures with lurid headlines and short reports. I see this as a part of the same

The My Haunted Life Trilogy – Final Book

My Haunted Life started off as a book idea to help broaden my readership (from magic to paranormal) and to utilize material from my blog supplemented by new stories as well. The first book – My Haunted Life – sold well and is still selling well and it prompted the idea for a second book – My Haunted Life Too. The second book went out only in Kindle format and it too is selling well. Well, in the book world, things usually come in three’s and so yes – a final book in this series is in the works with the rather unique and obvious title… My Haunted Life 3! Like its two predecessors, it is a collection of true short stories of strange experiences in life; both mine and others.

Still Scared of the Dark?

Scared of the dark. That’s a funny expression if you think about it. It’s not that we are scared of the dark but of what might be hidden in that darkness. I know that growing up and if I am truly honest, even now from time-to-time, I am afraid of the dark. Too many terrifying experiences – some even shared – to discount the idea that sometimes the dark isn’t actually hiding something. These days, it is more the memory of things that once happened that can have my heart palpitating, my palms sweaty and the back of my neck hot and prickly! These days, I am able to consciously bring matters under control quite quickly and that is usually all it takes to control the fear. I learned this

Expectation and the Power of Prayer

A few weeks ago, someone posted in the local Brno-based group on Facebook that the supermarkets here always had empty shelves and that they couldn’t find a number of food items that they were used to in Germany. Politely, I made the comment that I never had experienced that problem and pointed them to a number of locations stocking the items that they needed. I also made the remark that we must live in parallel universes. Not knowing me, that comment was taken the wrong way but I actually meant it. To me, this was another example of magic at work. We get what we expect. The German plainly had an expectation contrary to mine, that the supermarket shelves were often empty and, as a result, they were. On the

The Mystical Hexagram – Countdown Deal

For the first week of December, we have set up an Amazon countdown deal for the kindle version of The Mystical Hexagram. It will start at 50% off on the 1st December. The book explores a symbol. Not from some scholarly or deeply complex perspective, but seeing it as a representation relating to life and living. The forces and pressures that are associated with the hexagram are, after all the forces of life at both practical and Universal levels. By exploring and beginning to understand the symbol, we are able to learn and discover more about ourselves. The meditations throughout the book take you on an inner journey of exploration, discovering the parallels between the self and the greater reality within which we live our lives. They illustrate the connection

Cosmic Dancer

On Friday I will be going to see Slade. Yes – Slade. Without Noddy Holder but the rest of them including slimy Dave Hill will be playing. I didn’t much like Slade back in the 1970’s. I was into the more gentle magic of Marc Bolan and T.Rex and Slade seemed raucous and too down to earth. There was no magic, no white swans or Wizards with Slade – just poor spelling and loud music. I moved from T.Rex to Status Quo. Corkscrew hair and spandex was replaced by greasy hair and denim. Fantasy was replaced with a gritty, monotonous reality of life in the north. Of course, now I look back and enjoy a lot of the music of that era. Even stuff I detested at the time now
