Marketing – It’s all about Marketing

I have just spent hours this week trying to find ways to market my music and books. I’m a professional marketing person with a reputation for doing solid work but when it comes to marketing my stuff we are talking a different level of scale. Let me give you an example. I release a song – like this last one. I post it to twitter, Facebook, etc. – all the usual sites. I write a blog about it. Result – nothing …. people are too busy and quite honestly I’m selling something new every 5 minutes…. OK – let’s get clever then. I know, lets make a video to promote a song – like this one perhaps? Now that takes time… hours. I like the result – so now what?

Life Has Never Been Like This…

It’s easy to moan about modern life…. and a lot of people seem to do so. For me, though, modern life is amazing. I mean, here I am 59 years old and I’m doing my day job, writing books, making music, taking photographs and so much more. Not only that but I’m actually having a bit of success doing it. I wonder what other generation of humanity could boast such a feat! Most previous generations were focused on one thing – survival. It’s not just me that is having fun with creativity. According to an article I read this morning, there are 25,000 new songs added to Spotify every day! 1 million every 6-weeks. According to another article I googled just now, there is a new book added to Amazon

Portrait of an Artist

The second photoshoot with Czech-American photographer, Walter Novak, is all done and I’m happy with the results. As Walter put it in an email – 975 shots and I nailed you with this one.   I have to admit, he probably did and his style of photography, I am shown as I am. I like the other shots too like this one. He has given me several that I can use for my author activities and also music. Walter is available for photo shoots…. contact me if interested.

How To Look At The World

I met Walter several years ago in Brno. He seemed a character and had good stories to tell. Unfortunately, he moved to Prague and from there back to the US. We kept in touch though via Facebook. Then, a few weeks ago I noticed him posting about returning to Brno so I reached out and we agreed to meet. Since then, we have shared a few evenings telling stories and laughing a lot. But Walter is no ordinary person. He sees life in a different way to many and his way of looking at the world is through the lens of a camera. He is also an artist framing what he sees within his lens. His vision captures the humanity of his subjects and casts them mostly in a way

Radio Memphis Got Some Mail…..

After my interview on Radio Memphis a few months ago, I stayed in touch with the DJ – Dianna – recently sending her my two latest songs – This Is Your Song (available on all digital outlets) and the soon to be released It’s My Life. Plainly, I touched her with what I wrote…. here is the story and the broadcast segment below…. Radio Memphis Around the World airs every Saturday afternoon from 1:00 PMCT – 5:00 PMCT. This is when Radio Memphis gets to step outside of Memphis and the Midsouth to listen to all kinds and styles of music from other cities and countries. And we’re here to tell you that our planet rocks. Because of this, Dianna gets a lot of mail. She has decided that what

Ripples

The stream flows by Bubbling, laughing at the sky And its crystal depths Remain unfathomable It is Eternal fullness Reflecting the sky I am a ripple Disturbing its surface Distorting Cavorting Playfully Not understanding why A part of the whole A communal soul Adding something Indeterminable Yet, beautiful To reality

Facists

Facists was the last song written for The Early Years. The song started with the introduction – picking out notes from a chord and adding in a harmony – and the main riff developed out of that. I had in other songs discovered that adding a sort of lead guitar riff in background added color to a song and I continued that theme with this song. I also played with a changed tempo during the song. The lyrics and topic came last and I chose to sing it in a lower – almost speaking voice with multiple overlays – some spoken to give it depth…   It’s up in the air It’s hanging around Nothing we can do Nothing at all   The world’s gone crazy The world’s gone mad

Amazing Coincidence

This last weekend, we went to a fairly remote location north of Prague for some hiking and sight seeing. On the Sunday, we were trying to decide where to stop for lunch. Initially, we stopped at a pub that looked quite nice but we were put off by the interior and so we set off again. A few minutes later, we saw another place that looked OK so we pulled in. Parking was a bit of an issue as the place seemed quite popular. We had our lunch and then we walked around and up the hill a little, taking in the pretty hillside cottages and the view. Then, we walked around the back of the pub/restaurant, got in the car and, after a quick chat and change of plan,
