So You Want to Kill Me?

I am surrounded by friends and people I hold dear both physically and also via social media. Like most other people, I feel quite secure in my imaginary cocoon that is my life. I never really give much thought to the fact that a large number of people want to kill me. Why these people would want to kill me is a puzzle. They don’t know me, they don’t interact with me, they don’t know my name or what I do with my life. They don’t know about the things I am good at, they don’t know if I am a good person or a bad person. They don’t care about my hopes, my fears, my loves or my passions. Rather, I am somehow a subject of hatred for them

Faces

We live in a beautiful street just outside the city center of Brno in the Czech Republic. Its beautiful because it comprises of houses built in and around 1900 at a time when the Czech Republic was an industrial powerhouse in central Europe. The families that built these homes were wealthy and it shows in the art nouveaux decorations, construction materials and size of the homes. Designed for a well to do family and their servants, most now are apartment buildings with 3-5 families per building. I have always been intrigued by the motifs on the buildings down the street and I am reproducing some of them below. There is one building I am saving for later and will write a separate blog article on it….. If anyone can cast

Blackfield and Moon Whispers

I have enjoyed the music of Steven wilson (Porcupine Tree) for many years now and have all four albums from Blackfield, a project in which Steven wilson partnered with Aviv Geffen to create some of the most melodic and listenable music I heave ever heard. Tunes like Pain and Where is my love? have haunted me for years. Recently, however, I got a hold of Blackfield II and this is almost heaven. The songs 1000 People and The End of the World are incredible and send me to aural heaven immediately. About 3 months ago I started listening to this record over and over again finding that each time I did I had to write. 1000 People in particular seems to make my creative juices spurt in vast quantities and

Am I Insane?

More or less anything I have ever done I have found a way to be successful with. Ok, successful doesn’t mean in my lexicon gaining notoriety or fame. It just means successful. I am adaptable and I can learn new things. But this selling books lark seems to be the biggest challenge I have ever met. I’m a poor seller it seems. I had hoped for The Last Observer. It is fast-paced, exciting, magical and if you know what to look for, its full of real magic. It has quantum physics, parallel universes, an evil magician, a demon by the name of the Lord of the Elements. It has some love interest, a tad of violence. It’s a pretty good little story and many of the reviewers seem to to

Buyer’s Confusion

I am in the market potentially for a bike. The Czechs love to cycle and there is much to see on a bike here and lots of bike paths and routes and so on. Its a bikers’ paradise.  Additionally, I just seem incapable of losing any weight whatever I do so I figure cycling more may help keep me fit, healthy and slimmer. But boy, how difficult it is to buy a bike! There seems to be around 20 odd brands and all of them make bikes in every category with minor differences and so my entry level bike choice probably numbers one of 30-40 different bike models and brands. Its no use asking the shop people which is the best value as they won’t tell you to go to

Wonderful Memories

There are some nights when finding myself alone I end up walking the pages of Youtube. Its a veritable memory lane really and it brings back such powerful and emotional memories. There is the video of Sandie Shaw that reminds me of our black and white TV with curtains in the small living room of the two up two down that was home in Westlands Road, Hull. I would sneek down to watch Top of the Pops and I do remember how I hated the Rolling Stones but adored Ms. Shaw. Cuddled in beside my Mum on the sofa watching the black and white box in the corner. How innocent I was… we all seemed to be back in the 1960s. Later we moved to Willerby…. it was a ‘posh’

Thrilling, Enjoyable, Classy, Fun, Fast-paced….

There is a common theme to the reviews of The Last Observer – see if you can spot it! Here are a selection of snippets – to read more please visit the publisher’s page. ..script-writers alert; this would make a cracking film! I enjoyed it immensely ..if you just want a great ride, this book will thrill you.. Really enjoyed the book.. The Last Observer is a classy, well crafted novella which leaves the reader satisfied and hooked. Great read. ..a small part of me would love to see the dialogue in Chapter Twenty – Zeltan Speaks performed by Al Pacino just as he did his famous defense of the human condition as Satan in the movie version of The Devil’s Advocate. If you liked that scene, you’ll enjoy this

The Answer is One

In the book “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”, the answer to the ultimate question of life, the Universe and Everything is 42. Actually, the book, though marvelous entertainment, is wrong – the answer is ONE. There is only one thing and it is everything. Yes, I know you think that you and I are different people – some of you likely hope that you are different people to me anyway! But, while your ego thinks you are the truth is we are ONE. What drugs have I been smoking? I hear you legitimately ask? None. I have been meditating. In fact, I have been meditating for a decade or so. And I can tell you with absolute certainty that everything, from the ant you squished laying in the sun

Bugger!

Sometimes I despair. Today is one of those days. Despite the fact that I do not appreciate Miley Cyrus’s exploits in front of camera. No, lets be honest – I think she is a total idiot and a horrible role model for my daughter….. but, I absolutely love her record – Wrecking Ball – despite myself. What the hell is wrong with me? Guess she has singing talent after all…. That hurt me to say.. Now – I also have to say this has to be the worst video ever made… Sorry, but what the hell were you thinking when you agreed to make this video Ms. Cyrus?
