Celebrating My Dad

I remember one day a few years ago looking around a cemetery with Dad. We were researching our family name together. I heard my Dad say something like ‘Oh my God” and looked up to see him appearing very pale and shocked. He was looking at a headstone that read “Charles Neville Vasey”. What was astonishing was that this Charles Neville Vasey had been born in the same year as our Dad but died quite young. Dad was shaken but I know he was also very happy to have lived so much longer than his namesake. I can truly say that I have never met anyone like my Dad. He somehow found a way to develop and share interests with all three of his sons no matter how different we

The Shadow and the Occultist’s Trained Mind

One characteristic of occult training is a ‘trained mind’. Dion Fortune talks about that quite a lot in her works and it is certainly true that the work we do rewires the brain and results in a mind that is able to perform visualization and concentration on demand. I read last night with great interest in ‘Moon Magic’ how Dion’s character, La Fay Morgan, talks about building an astral temple using visualization and the trained mind. I can do this too these days and actually very easily when I put my mind and my training to it. But, that Shadow, he robs me of my ability to concentrate, to visualize – he utterly disrupts my ‘trained’ mind. How? It’s almost like the old idea of the devil on one shoulder

The others though are also worthy of mention. They are The Chymical Wedding of CRC and John Dee’s The Hieroglyphic Monad. There is a common set of linkages in these three books that doesn’t stop at the use of Dee’s Monad on the cover of The Chymical wedding! To cut right to the chase, for me, the commonality is the Elements and Elemental magic. This may be obvious in Comte de Gabalis but maybe not so obvious in the other two books – until you see it that is. Comte de Gabalis is a

Relationships As A Mirror To Your Soul

What you see in someone else is often a projection of yourself and it can be self-revealing to examine your relationships periodically. This is particularly so in relationships with the opposite sex for in those relationships there is something revealed about your own inner polarity too. All souls have receptive female aspects and active male aspects and these are reflected in the anima/animus concept. I have found through periodic reflection that my anima or inner female is very active often pointing the way or waking me up to possibilities and experiences that perhaps otherwise I would miss. In fact, should I forget to meditate or find I am seemingly unable to find the time then there she is in my dreams again! Rarely, we can meet someone of the opposite
