Self-Publishing Pop

I’m not sure why I write books. It’s certainly not for the money! I guess I just enjoy the challenge of creating something, floating it by people and seeing if I can make a success of it! To me, putting out books has something of the flavor of the pop industry in the 70’s – you put out a single and watch it chart – or not – hoping to be #1 on the hit parade for a week or two all the while knowing that you are only getting a small pittance for the record. It is simply fun. Especially when combined with things that interest you. You see, I enjoy strange stories of the paranormal, I am interested in the occult, magic and the nature of reality –

Endings and Beginnings

I was willing to work I was willing to be someone else I was willing to be whatever you needed me to be And yet You threw it away I would have given you anything I would have turned a blind eye I would have done whatever it took you see I woke up that morning In a pure funk Understood I had lost myself You broke my heart Took me so completely apart Now I’m picking up my pieces And puzzling over where they belong Thats why I am writing this bloody song Directionless Even emotionless Until it overwhelms Rolls over me like the rushing waters Crushing, washing and flipping me The panic starts The anxiety rises You are always full of surprises Endings are beginnings So they say

How Different Are People

If you needed a reminder of just how different people are take a look at any book on Amazon with a number of reviews – even Shakespeare’s sonnets. There you will find the entire gamut of people’s perceptions as reviews. The Last Observer, my paranormal novella, has quite a lot of reviews as well and I was just going through them on Amazon and Goodreads to see what people thought. There are 25 reviews on Amazon.com and it has an average of 4.4 out of five which I will happily take all day. The book has 17 5-star reviews, 4 four-star, 2 3-star and 2 one-star reviews and no two-star reviews as yet. But consider some of the comments…. We have this on the one hand – “This book was

Multimedia

Over the last year or more, I have fiddled with multimedia in the form of book videos and even me reading a poem. I’m unsure as to whether multimedia adds much to be honest as the views for most of the videos I have made are quite low. Perhaps I am not much good at making video or maybe there is a trick to marketing them I am unaware of… Recently, someone suggested I should start podcasting! There are just too few hours in the day and writing takes up a lot of time… anyway, all of those videos are on my youtube channel – go check it out perhaps – it is here.   Here is the first video I made.. And here is the latest…

A Hopelessly Addicted Scribbler

Yesterday, I received an email from one of my readers. He had just read my latest Kindle book and was giving me some feedback. However, he was also asking a question – When will you finish the sequel to The Last Observer? That is a good question actually…. You see, I am an addicted scribbler. I get ideas for books all of the time and off I go pursuing it. Right now, I am working on two ideas simultaneously. One is too early to divulge but it will be a Kindle short ghost stories book – but different! The other came to me last night as I read old blog posts and it is actually almost finished already. I just need to edit, organize and add a bit to it…

My Haunted Life – Extreme Edition Available

Today, I have a new paperback about to hit the market in the form of My Haunted Life – The Extreme Edition. Weighing in at 210 pages and $12.99, its birth was actually relatively painless as it is essentially My Haunted Life, My Haunted Life Too, My Haunted Life 3 and two additional, never published before stories as a bonus. The cover is I think pretty spooky too! I started writing My Haunted Life last year as an idea to expand on some of the material in Inner Journeys (my first book back in 2005). In Inner Journeys, I talk about growing up with poltergeist and ghosts and how that made me interested in the supernatural and magic. The point of the book was to talk about studying with a

The Big Spring Clean Out

I am trying to do too much I have decided. I have too many blogs and most of them are sat idle as I have no time to feed them so it’s time to wield my Geburic side and take an exe to blogland! In the next week or so, this blog and website will have its independence again. Although I like the community aspect of wordpress.com I hate the limits placed. I want to add widgets and functionality that WordPress.com will not let me do so… UDI declared. garymvasey.com will be migrated back off to its own server and a copy will be left at WordPress.com so I have the best of both worlds…. Meanwhile, Asteroth’s Domain has always been my more magical site but to be honest, I

Telling Tales About Writing

I have always liked, no – enjoyed and thrived – in telling stories. I am a story teller. I cannot resist it. I like to spin tales whether fact or fiction and watch the faces of my audience. The truth be told, I talk too much and listen too little. In Yorkshire terminology, I could talk the hind legs off a donkey! My idea of a good night is to sit, glass in hand, telling stories and being told stories, entertaining those willing to listen and feeding off the other’s tales. What I am most certainly not is a writer in the classical sense of the word. Last night, I happened on an article and simply hundreds of comments about the fact that there should be only one space after

God Visited My Blog Last Night

I had a visitor to my website over night. According to his email address his name was God.God at yahoo.com to be precise. However, based on the content of the message left to greet me this morning, God had very little to do with it. I had thought about reproducing the content of his email here but I won’t. The person who wrote it belongs to that small group of people who feel that God has given them permission to hate and take retribution. Just like the people who are ISIS, beheading and killing for God, this, I suppose ‘christian’, believes he represents God and God’s will and uniquely has the power to identify his adversary. I feel sorry for these people. God is love and love knows no bounds. The

My Haunted Life Series Experience

In Amazon terms, My Haunted Life and My Haunted Life Too are both best-sellers in their categories. While neither has earned the #1 spot in their category as of yet, they have both been in the top 10. My Haunted Life 3 is due on on Friday 23rd January so perhaps it will be the one to be number one? We will see. I have learned a great deal through these three short kindle books actually. A lot about writing and a lot about Amazon and sales. What amazes me is how few books are needed to be in the top of a category! Having said that, you need to sell 5-6 books day in day out to stay there! Sales numbers (including free give aways) for the two books
