The Subtle and The Gross

For all that meets the bodily sense I deem Symbolical, one might alphabet For infant minds: and we in this low world Placed with our backs to bright Reality, That we may learn with young unwounded ken The substance from the shadow. (The Destiny of Nations – Coleridge) I am finding The Zelator by Mark Hedsel a fascinating read. I have, in fact, read it at least twice before and it was one of those books that discovered me many years ago. I recall being in Toronto on a business trip and having a couple of hours to kill. I found a cheap bookstore somewhere in town and there was a pile of books called The Zelator. I picked one up and was sold in an instant. Hedsel discusses at

It’s Not Xmas Without Scrooge….

Last night we watched A Christmas Carol – the Jim Carey version which is quite good. The Christmas Carol is a wonderful story and without it I just don’t feel like its Xmas to be honest. A dose of Tiny Tim is just what is needed to remind you to enjoy life. My favorite version of the story as a movie is the Alistair Sim’s version – to me, this is the classic Scrooge and Jim Carey’s version seems to follow it quite a bit. I wonder what chains I have made for myself and how long and heavy they already are? Is joy of life and living the recipe for loosing those chains? It always reminds me of the Devil card in the tarot (Waite version). In the Mystical

Just words?

There is the saying ‘Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me’. It’s wrong. I heard a variation on the theme just recently where I was told that someone thought that words don’t have consequences, only actions. That’s wrong too. Words are sounds. Sounds are vibrations. Sounds are waves that when they hit the eardrum of a conscious observer turn into sound and are interpreted by the brain. Sounds are a part of the fabric of creation. Not for nothing does the Bible say ‘In the beginning was the Word’ or insinuate that the first words spoken were “Let there be light.’ Kabbalah, the form of it practiced by people like Franz Bardon anyway, is the use of sacred sounds to create, to make magic.

Nature and the Goddess

Today, as I descended into the valley behind our flat and started along the tree-lined mud pathway, I sensed something. For some reason, I invoked the Goddess. Loudly and verbally. I asked the Goddess and the nature spirits of the valley to be with me and to help me in certain things. It just seemed so beautiful with the autumn leaf colors from yellow, through greens and browns to red. The sunlight sparkling in sheer rays through the tree tops. The gentle bubbling of water running down the small brook to the bottom of the valley. I was content. But then, it happened. At first, I thought it must have somehow started to rain as I heard what seemed like raindrops hitting the leaves of the trees all around me

The Two Gods of Christianity

I got a comment last night on one of my posts. It told me to go back to studying the Bible in so many words and that eternal life was a gift given only to those who repented etc. etc. How sad. I was raised a christian and to all intents and purposes I probably still am more Christ-centric than anything else. I am sympathetic to christianity. However, there was time when I realized that many Christians seem to believe in two Gods. I guess it was all those years in Texas that finally sealed it for me. Christianity, in some forms, preaches a duality and I’m sorry I am not a dualist. Let me explain. For me there is the One Thing. Call it God/Goddess or whatever name you

Six Weird Statements About Reality

Quantum physics – have you taken any time at all to see what quantum physicists are saying about reality? You should because it is totally bizarre. Check out these 6 statements. If quantum mechanics hasn’t profoundly shocked you, you haven’t understood it yet. Niels Bohr [T]he atoms or elementary particles themselves are not real; they form a world of potentialities or possibilities rather than one of things or facts.” Werner Heisenberg Observations not only disturb what is to be measured, they produce it. Pascual Jordan When the province of physical theory was extended to encompass microscopic phenomena through the creation of quantum mechanics, the concept of consciousness came to the fore again. It was not possible to formulate the laws of quantum mechanics in a fully consistent way without reference

My Private Reality Sphere Part 1 by Seth of Acopalypse-How

Bubbles within bubbles, wheels within wheels , we are each a universe , complete with our own planet earth and surrounding cosmos. I call it My Virtual Reality Sphere . When I look up into the sky and see all the stars , I “know” they are within me, there is no out there , I know that if I want to reach out and touch the stars I can , they are no different than the trillions of cells in my body , they are part of ” Me”. You know the old saying ” You Think The Universe Revolves Around You ” well its true , the universe does revolve around you , we are each encapsulated so to speak in our own private Spherical Mirror , and

Obsession with a Symbol

The hexagram. It’s a beautiful symbol of balance used extensively around the world and in everyday life. The hexagram might be said to represent the ALL THAT IS and because of its internal symmetry, it represents the ALL THAT IS in perfect harmonious balance – pure perfection. It is a symbol of perfection but it suggests too that perfection or harmony is something very delicate, immensely fragile, and it is easily lost. It is something that must be purposely sought for. It is the symbol of the Sun and, it is the symbol of the Son holding Tiphareth at its very center. It has a golden heart. The hexagram signifies the Great Work of Alchemy. It signifies the emanated and the source. It is the ALL and its creation or

Magic and Science

A common theme of mine on this blog is the nature of reality and how Gnostics and occultists knew this long before modern scientists created their glorified Theories of everything. In fact, those very same scientists are only hinting at what is already known and has been through milenia. In fact, it takes others like Anthony Peake, for example, to take that science and analyze it in a holistic manner to start to draw some startling hypotheses. The fact that anthony has found some modicum of support for his work among mystics and magicians should be no surprise for he is simply rediscovering things that, for a few, where already well known. Take a read of Eliphas Levi for example. “There exists a force in nature which is far more

The Hexagram and Kybalion

The new book – The Mystical Hexagram: The Seven Inner Stars of Power by SC Vincent and myself – gets into a discussion of what I call ‘polarity’. The Polarity displayed by the Hexagram as a symbol is actually best viewed when the Hexagram is overlaid on the Tree of Life. In fact, the book looks at the three types of polarity implicit in the Hexagram as well as what I call the Three Cycles (which interestingly enough equate to the three Alchemical Principles of Salt, Mercury and Sulphur!) as well as the Fire and the Water triangles that, interlaced, form the hexagram. But … back to polarity. Today, I was re-reading the Kybalion book by the Three Initiates. It suddenly struck me that the three polarities observed in the
