Alchemy and the Hexagram

During the 4 or 5 years that I struggled with the content of the book The Mystical Hexagram, which was all received in meditation, I understood that this material was important. I also understood that the approach, using the symbol of the hexagram to cast light on a variety of other magical systems and techniques would appeal to just a small number of people. In the end, I took the use of the symbol only so far and stopped short of where I had intended to go with it – which was to look at what it meant also in alchemical terms. The reasons for this is that I am not expert enough in many areas to trust what was coming through sufficiently to commit it to paper and the

Knights in Shining Armour

In the Mystical Hexagram, I talk of the horny hardened matter that we build up through life and I have discussed it another post on this blog too. As we get older, we lose our imaginative abilities to a great extent and we lose our childlike qualities. We form a shield if you will, against hurt, against pain, against trust, against the rest of the world. We hide. Our own experiences can make this hardened layer impermeable and impenetrable like a layer of very hard and rough skin. In the past, this defensive skin has been portrayed as horns of hardened material why? because there is a relationship to the dark Moon – to Selene – for as we grow our horns of life – we sleep easier. The hardened

Fate, Destiny and Free Will

The Vengeful Fates cackle While spinning their eternal web Objective achieved The plot in place They watch and wait From The Eagle’s Saga – A poem from Weird Tales: Otherworld Poetry by Dr. G. Michael Vasey, 2006 Free will. We all very much like to believe that we have freedom of choice. That we have the power to make the decisions in our lives. Indeed, those decisions are our life as they weave the patterns, twists and turns of our existence. But do we? Hermes, when asked about the nature of ordinary man – that is, of man that had not entered the stream of development that leads to initiation – he said that such a man or woman was merely a ‘procession of fate’. from The Zelator by Mark

The Subtle and The Gross

For all that meets the bodily sense I deem Symbolical, one might alphabet For infant minds: and we in this low world Placed with our backs to bright Reality, That we may learn with young unwounded ken The substance from the shadow. (The Destiny of Nations – Coleridge) I am finding The Zelator by Mark Hedsel a fascinating read. I have, in fact, read it at least twice before and it was one of those books that discovered me many years ago. I recall being in Toronto on a business trip and having a couple of hours to kill. I found a cheap bookstore somewhere in town and there was a pile of books called The Zelator. I picked one up and was sold in an instant. Hedsel discusses at

It’s Not Xmas Without Scrooge….

Last night we watched A Christmas Carol – the Jim Carey version which is quite good. The Christmas Carol is a wonderful story and without it I just don’t feel like its Xmas to be honest. A dose of Tiny Tim is just what is needed to remind you to enjoy life. My favorite version of the story as a movie is the Alistair Sim’s version – to me, this is the classic Scrooge and Jim Carey’s version seems to follow it quite a bit. I wonder what chains I have made for myself and how long and heavy they already are? Is joy of life and living the recipe for loosing those chains? It always reminds me of the Devil card in the tarot (Waite version). In the Mystical

Ripples

In meditation, I often see ripples in a pool. They start at a point and move outwards as small waves. If the small wave meets an object, an interference pattern occurs. Thoughts are like ripples. They start with a focus. Something triggers that focus but then, if we are able to, the thought expands like a ripple moving ever outwards into the world having who knows what impacts out there. Words, words are sounds and sounds are waves too so when we speak, ripples move out from ourselves and those words can impact – not just those who hear them – but everything those sound ripples touch. Who knows what interference patterns result from our thoughts and words. Those wave forms or ripples that we all create oscillate all around.

Wakey Wakey People….

Back in 2005, I wrote and published a book called Inner Journeys: Explorations of the Soul (Thoth) about my own personal spiritual journey. Although a personal tale, some of the thoughts were that all is one and that we are all expressions of the same Divine form – we have just forgotten this. I also discussed reality and how we create our reality, how time and space are fabrications of the human mind and how meditation is the key to self-discovery. Several books that I have read recently for one reason or another echo my own individual journey. I just finished Believe and its True by Deborah Lloyd. Deborah Lloyd tells the story through a series of chapters that track her life and the lessons that she has learned from

My Dad – The Last Observer

Have you ever wondered how things work? My father did this all of the time. You could see it in his face as he had a habit of moving his eyes from side-to-side in a particular way when he was deep in thought. He would be wondering, you see, how does that work? I was fortunate that my father thought this way because he would occasionally discuss his thoughts and more importantly, his ideas, about how things worked with me. The ‘thing’ could be a computer, an engine or indeed, the entire universe. I’m not exactly sure what thought processes my dad used but he had no more than a secondary school education broken up by the war and supplemented by some ‘night school’. He was a practical man too

Searching for Direction

As you may of noted, I haven’t really posted here for a while. I have been writing short and hopefully funny articles at my other blog but spiritually I am at an impasse. So much so, that I decided to own up to it, lay it out and see what people have to suggest – if anything. My problem is that I don’t know where to go next. I really fancy (I use that word deliberately) going in the direction of real magical practical work – evocation/invocation – but I am an amateur and so I seek a rock solid and reliable school to help me. On the other hand, I feel a certain calling from the Goddess and so I have looked at Wicca and Celtic paganism. Then as

A Phase

I commented somewhere recently – I am in a Goddess phase – and I really am. She is on my mind – I even had to write a poem about it. Today, I went down to the forest and, choosing a part of the path deep in the forest where a small stream passes, I called on Her. I lit and placed a small candle and left an offering. She was all around and everywhere. I have periodically dreamed of Her. She is the beautiful woman of my dreams. She is also the deep and strange fears that I harbor deep inside. More importantly, she is the inner me – my anima. She is every woman I meet. She is the temptress, the sexy vixen, the aloof and haughty woman,
